Begonia sp. Miri is a rare and striking tropical Begonia species native to the rainforests of Papua New Guinea and Sarawak, Malaysia, known for its deeply serrated, nearly black or dark olive-black iridescent leaves with metallic sheen and vibrant red undersides on new growth.
-
Light: Prefers bright, filtered, or dappled shade, avoiding direct sunlight which can scorch its delicate leaves.
-
Humidity: Requires very high humidity levels, ideally between 75% to 80%.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions generally between 15°C and 27°C (59°F to 80°F). Avoid temperatures below 15°C.
-
Soil: Grows best in a well-draining, airy mix that retains moisture but avoids waterlogging, such as peat-free soilless media or mixes featuring sphagnum moss, coir, perlite, or LECA.
-
Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but never soggy. Good drainage is critical to prevent root rot.
